Dear Association Executives:
This year, America celebrates more than just National Homeownership Month in June. This April, we also mark the 40th anniversary of the passage of the Fair Housing Act. This watershed moment in our nation’s history empowered people from all backgrounds and walks of life by protecting fair and equal access to housing.
Today, four decades later, REALTORS® continue to work in every possible way to preserve and expand fair access to affordable housing and homeownership. We are educating homebuyers and homeowners in our communities about the housing market and the opportunities that are available to purchase a home. We are working with Congress to make the new FHA and conforming loan limits, mandated by the economic stimulus package, permanent so that Americans can access affordable financing – no matter where they live. We also continue to push for a stronger, more flexible FHA program, to give more first-time homebuyers access to affordable and safe financing options.
As association executives, you can help draw attention to our important efforts to preserve fair and equal access to affordable housing and affordable financing. On these pages, you’ll find everything you need to help celebrate Fair Housing Month (April) and National Homeownership Month (June):
- First, we are providing you with information on NAR’s role as a leading advocate for fair housing.
- Second, we have provided you with information on outstanding homeownership resources that you can share with REALTORS® in your states and communities.
- Third, we have National Homeownership Month and Fair Housing Month communication materials and artwork to help you promote efforts to expand homeownership and affordable housing opportunities.
