The NAR Leadership Academy identifies, inspires, and mentors emerging leaders from the local and state level for the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®.
Application process is now open, closes March 31, 2009.
What Is the Leadership Academy?
The Leadership Academy is a nine-month, five-stage training and development program structured around NAR's national meetings. Each training session will build on developing institutional knowledge and leadership skills.

National Association of REALTORS® 2009 Leadership Academy Class
The 2009 Academy class held its first meeting during the 2008 Leadership Summit. The class consists of 27 people from 21 states and Puerto Rico. Alaska, Arkansas, California (2), Colorado, Florida (3), Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota (2), Mississippi, North Carolina, New Jersey, New Mexico, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah (2), Washington (2) and West Virginia.

Who Should Apply?
REALTOR® members who are actively involved at the state and local levels:
- Local and/or state involvement in balance with the potential to grow into a leadership position at the national level
- Capacity and desire to progress to the national level
REALTOR® members with demonstrated leadership abilities:
- Formal training from a local or state REALTOR® association, a JD, MBA, community or military leadership program(s)
- In lieu of formal training, be prepared to describe an incident or activity that had the most impact on your development as a leader
- REALTOR® members who are passionate about the industry and the issues
You may be overqualified if:
- Serve(d) as chairman on two or more NAR committees
- Serve(d) as past or present NAR RVP
- Currently a member of the executive committee
- Past or current member of the NAR Leadership Team or Extended Leadership Team
- Past or current NAR committee liaison
Participants are selected through a committee process. Personal information, including name, is not shared with the committee, the applications are judged on qualifications. Responses to the industry challenges and leadership aspirations are given careful consideration as they reflect personal point of view and vision.
What Is the Commitment?
- The fee, paid upon acceptance is $1000
- Attendance to all sessions is mandatory
- If you miss one session, you can make it up the next year and graduate after the session is complete.
- If you miss two sessions, you must drop out of the program and reapply when you can commit the time.
Participants are also expected to pay for their own travel expenses to attend the sessions in conjunction with the REALTORS® Conference & Expo and the Midyear Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo. NAR covers costs for all course materials, and hotel or hotel and airfare expenses for other off-cycle meetings. Participants are expected to complete various assigned readings and are encouraged to keep a personal leadership point of view journal.

How Do I Apply?
