The National Association's 2009 Professional Standards Education Seminar will be held on August 20 and 21 in Chicago.

Seminar Topics
The seminar includes, but is not limited to, instruction on:

  • due process
  • procuring cause
  • mediation
  • the role of the grievance committee, hearing panel, and board of directors
  • writing an ethics decision
There will also be a question and answer session with experienced REALTOR® professional standards instructors joined by staff of the National Association.

Seminar participants will receive credit toward the RCE designation or toward re-certification. The course does not fulfill the educational requirements for Professional Standards Administrator training.

Attendee Profiles, Registration, and Fees
To optimize attendees' learning experience, please complete and return the attendee profile form below with your registration. Registration will be opened to all individuals and local associations after February 28, 2009, (space is initially reserved for individuals selected by state associations) although you may submit your registration now to be considered on a first-come, first-served basis after February 28. It is recommended that attendees have at least five years experience in Code enforcement. Attendee’s successful completion will be recognized; however, no certification status is conferred.

The seminar registration fee is $500 (nonrefundable after July 17) and includes all seminar materials, continental breakfast, lunch, and refreshments. There is also a reception Thursday evening to give participants an opportunity to discuss common professional standards concerns with other attendees from across the county. A seminar registration form is provided below. Return completed registration forms, along with a completed attendee profile form and a registration fee to the Member Policy Department in care of Bernice Barajas by fax with credit card number. Note: The registration fee does not represent the total cost of conducting this seminar. The National Association's financial support represents its continuing commitment to preparing qualified individuals to train REALTORS® and staff about enforcement.

Accommodations
Reduced-rate room reservations are available at the Hotel InterContinental, site of the seminar in downtown Chicago, at 505 N. Michigan Avenue. Rooms are available at a special rate of $229.00 (single/double occupancy). When making reservations (312-944-4100 or 800-628-2112) indicate that you are attending the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® Professional Standards Education Seminar to ensure you receive the reduced-rate. Participants are responsible for making their own hotel reservations and are encouraged to do so, as early as possible. Whether at the InterContinental or elsewhere, hotel accommodations cannot be guaranteed if reservations are made after July 27, 2009. If a travel agent is used to make room reservations, the same reduced rate that we have negotiated with the hotel may not be available.

Start time
Registration and continental breakfast will be available at 7:30 A.M. Thursday. The seminar begins on Thursday at 8 a.m, and concludes no later than noon Friday.
