Daily Real Estate News | October 8, 2003 | Ohio Department of Commerce Warns of Bogus Letter Acting on complaints from real estate practitioners, the Ohio Department of Commerce has issued a warning about a letter being mailed from Cincinnati to real estate licensees across the state. The letter appears to come from the state's licensing division and asks for a $100 fee to execute online real estate transactions. The Ohio Department of Commerce says it didn't issue the letter and advises licensees to disregard it. "The letter says it comes from the U.S. Department of Real Estate Licensing, Ohio Branch," says Department of Commerce spokesperson Bill Teets. "There is no such entity." He describes the letter as "very official looking." The Department of Commerce has issued a cease and desist order to Mary M. Broerman, who signed the letter.
