REALTORŪ Killed in Omaha Mall Shooting
Among those killed in the Omaha, Neb., mall shooting on Wednesday was Beverly J. Flynn, a real estate salesperson with local brokerage NP Dodge Co.
The REALTORŪ, who always embraced the Christmas spirit, worked part-time as a gift wrapper at Von Maur during the holiday season, according to news reports. She was married with three daughters, who range in age from elementary school to mid 20s.
“For those of you who did not know her, Beverly was the kind of person and associate we all admire,” NP Dodge President Sandy Dodge said in a letter sent out to employees, and in a statement posted on the company Web site. “She was a very conscientious, client-oriented agent, who made a practice of planting a rose bush in the yard of each family with whom she worked.”
Flynn marketed herself with the slogan: "Just sit back and smell the roses while Beverly Flynn takes care of your every need." Her Web page shows that she had 11 listings in the Omaha area.
Dodge said that Flynn, 47, had a good sense of humor and was well-liked by clients and colleagues.
“All we know is that a fine human being has been taken from us prematurely, and that she and the other victims will be greatly missed,” Dodge said in her letter. “For Beverly’s family and friends, life will never be the same.”
Flynn was one of eight people killed by a teenage gunman who went on a shooting rampage at the Von Maur store in Omaha's busy Westroads Mall before committing suicide.
NP Dodge has set up a memorial fund in support of Flynn’s family. If you would like to contribute, please write a check payable to Dodge Cares, with a notation on the memo line stating “Beverly Flynn Memorial Fund.” Send the check to: NP Dodge Corporate Office; 8701 West Dodge Road, Suite 300; Omaha, NE, 68114.
The brokerage plans to fly its flags at half-staff for the next week to honor Flynn and the other victims.
