Self-Directed IRAs: Tapping Your Expertise for Retirement
3 p.m. Eastern Time
Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010
How might real estate practitioners tap their market expertise in planning for their retirement? In a self-directed IRA, practitioners work with a passive IRA custodian to invest a portion of their tax-deferred retirement savings in real estate of their choice. There are complex tax issues to consider that require consultation with a tax specialist, but in general, the investment structure enables practitioners to sell their investment upon retirement without paying capital gains tax because the property is an asset of their IRA and the sale proceeds go back into the IRA. Then, when practitioners withdraw the proceeds in monthly increments to pay their living expenses, the withdrawals are taxed at the regular rate.
In this free one-hour session, a self-directed IRA specialist will explain the investment structure in detail. Resources with additional information will be provided.
