Style Guidelines and Other NAR Trademarks
| A. NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® | The logotype is capital letters, followed by the registration mark. It may be set on either one or two lines and should never be hyphenated. When first referenced, it is always spelled out. When referenced again, it may be abbreviated either as "the National Association," "the Association" or "NAR" (without periods). When saying the abbreviation "NAR," each letter should be pronounced separately (i.e., "N"-"A"-"R"), not as one syllable. | Examples: The only acceptable abbreviations for THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® are as follows: the National Association the Association NAR |

| B. REALTOR®and REALTOR-ASSOCIATE® | REALTOR® and REALTOR-ASSOCIATE® are capital letters and are followed by the registration mark. They cannot be broken into two lines by hyphenating, nor should the terms be abbreviated. Avoid possessives whenever possible. Descriptive words should not be placed as modifiers in front of the terms |

| C. Associations and Boards of REALTORS® | 1. It is recommended that you refer to boards and states collectively as "REALTOR® associations" and separately as "local associations" or "state associations |
Examples:
The members of the REALTOR® associations of Maine welcome you. Today's event is sponsored by the Hawaii REALTOR® associations. |

| 2. When referring to a particular board or association, the term board and name of the board should have initial caps, followed by the words "of REALTORS®." |
Examples:
Chicago Association of REALTORS® Bucks County Board of REALTORS®, Inc. |

| 3. When referring to local boards in general, refer to them as "local boards" or "local associations" to accommodate the organizations that are changing their names from XYZ Board of REALTORS® to XYZ Association of REALTORS®. Do not capitalize "board" or "association," unless used in a headline or in conjunction with the proper name of a board or association. |
Examples:
The awards were given to all local boards. Open houses were held by neighboring local associations. The event was at the Northeast County Association. |

| 4. When referring to a particular state association, the state name and the term "Association" are typed with initial caps, followed by the words "of REALTORS®." |
Examples:
Pennsylvania Association of REALTORS® Louisiana REALTORS® Association |

| 5. When referring in general to state associations, refer to them always with both words (never just as "state"), and do not capitalize "state" or "association" unless used in a headline or in conjunction with the proper name of the association. |
Examples:
The state association's address is... Many state associations held conventions this year. |

| D. Member | When referring to a member of NAR, the term member is typed in all lower case, except when used at the beginning of a sentence or in a headline. |
Example:
As a member, your voice will be heard. |
| E. Titles and Officers | 1. Complete titles that immediately precede a personal name, as part of the name, are in initial caps, without a comma after the title. |
Examples:
NAR President Jane Smith ...according to Sherman County Board President John Doe |

| 2. All complete and official titles that appear alone in place of a personal name are typed in lower case. |
Examples:
The executive officer of the Maryland Association... The president of the Columbus Board of REALTORS®... Elected officers of the state association... |

| 3. Titles that directly follow personal name are typed in lower case, with a comma after the name. |
Examples:
Jane Smith, president of NAR John Doe, chairman of the Communications Committee |

| F. Board of Directors | When referring to NAR's Board of Directors, the term is in initial caps. |
Examples:
...approved by the National Association's Board of Directors. |
| G. Code of Ethics | When referring to NAR's Code of Ethics, the term is in initial caps. |
Examples:
The Code of Ethics is strictly enforced... Articles of the Code of Ethics... |
| H. Committees | When referring to a specific committee of NAR, the full name of the committee is in initial caps. When referring in general to a committee, it appears in lower case. |
Examples:
Executive Committee The chairperson of the Education Committee. Following the committee's review... |

These are the only acceptable capitalization, placement of registration, and trademark symbol usage for these programs and publications.
