AE volunteers not only shape the policies that affect their careers, but also develop valuable resources and policies to help all members and REALTOR® associations flourish. Association Executives (chief staff and staff specialists) are invited and encouraged to volunteer to serve on all NAR committees.

Volunteering for the AE Committee, Advisory Boards, or Work Groups

Every year, AEs have an opportunity to serve on the Association Executives Committee (AEC), its advisory boards, and other NAR committees. The AEC also forms single-subject, limited-term work groups each year, dedicated to tackling specific goals and initiatives. AEs can volunteer for these work groups beginning in late December/early January — watch for notices in Edge Up with NAR and The HUB. A list of AEC advisory board and work group goals and rosters appears on the AEC Advisory Boards and Work Groups page.

The purpose of the AEC is to advance the professionalism of association executives and their volunteer leaders, build proactive alliances that enhance and strengthen organizational relationships, and provide a framework for implementing the initiatives of the AEC advisory boards, work groups, and forums.

AE volunteers also earn credit towards their REALTOR® Association Certified Executive (RCE) designation through their involvement in NAR committees.

Serving on Other NAR Committees

Opportunities for service on other NAR committees are detailed on the NAR Committee Structure pages. These pages give you a snapshot of each committee by presenting its purpose, composition, terms of service, and desired membership qualifications. All committees, advisory boards, and forums are listed in alphabetical order by full committee or by NAR oversight group. The call for applications is open from April through May each year.

Volunteering as an AEC Representative to Other NAR Committees

AEs can also serve on other NAR committees as the AEC Representative. AEs are appointed to serve as representatives from the AEC to other NAR committees to ensure two-way communication. Representatives are responsible for ensuring that issues discussed in the respective committees have the benefit of the AE perspective and that the AEC is apprised of issues being considered during and between NAR meetings

When and Where Committees and Work Groups Meet

NAR committees and most work groups meet at NAR's two main annual conferences, the REALTORS® Legislative Meetings, held every May, and NAR NXT, The REALTOR® Experience, held in November. For a complete list of all NAR meetings and conferences, visit the Events page.
