Great Landscaping Can Help Sell the House

Well-done landscaping does wonders for the appearance of a home, just as houseplants add coziness and color to any room in the house. For guidance on choosing plants that complement your home, and to find helpful advice for clients looking to spruce up their property before selling, turn to the National Gardening Association’s Web site. The nonprofit organization’s goal is to help people become better gardeners by providing tips, articles, and how-to guides for an array of projects. The site is easy to navigate and is a good source for gardening novices and green thumbs alike.

  • Lawns & Landscaping. Your lawn is more than grass, flowers, and trees—it’s an addition to your home that can be used for playing, relaxing, and entertaining. This section of the site helps you make the most of outdoor space by Building a Pond Garden and identifying Lawn Problems. The Bug Mugs Photo Library shows which garden insects are friends and foes and tells you how to eliminate the ones that can do damage.

  • How-to Projects. When you need help tackling a new task, head to this section of the Web site, where you’ll find instructions on gardening techniques, projects, and crafts. Learn about Planning a Low-Maintenance Landscape, Fertilizing a Tree, and Planting a Window Box of colorful flowers. Each how-to guide spells out the tools and materials you’ll need and provides step-by-step instructions on how to get the project done.

  • Landscaping 101. If you’re just starting to think about revamping your landscape, this article is a good place to start. Learn how to collect your ideas and put them into action. Other beginner articles found on this site provide equally helpful guidance, such as Houseplants 101, Garden Design 101, and Organic Gardening 101. Unfortunately, the “101” articles aren’t grouped in one place; they appear sporadically as features on the right column of the page.

  • Free E-Newsletters. Sign up for a free bi-weekly newsletter delivered to your e-mail inbox. By entering your zip code, the newsletter is catered to your region and provides year-round tips for maintaining your lawn and taking care of indoor plants.
