Get Involved in Political Issues That Matter

Go to the NAR Action Center to read up on important legislation that impacts the real estate industry and get involved on the issues that affect your pocketbook and the way you conduct business.

It can be a lot of work staying up-to-date on legislation that impacts the real estate industry, but it’s a job that must be done if you want to encourage proposals that would help the industry and stop those that would hurt your business or the consumers you serve. To make that job easier, go to the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® Action Center, where you can read about the important federal issues being debated in the U.S. government and take action by contacting lawmakers who make the decisions. If you’re visiting the site for the first time, you’ll need to enter your NRDS number and some personal information to access the majority of the content. Once you’re registered, here’s a taste of what you’ll find:

• Washington Weekly Report. Read about the latest legislative happenings on Capitol Hill, from brownfield bills to regulations on banks in real estate. Prepared by NAR’s Government Affairs division, this page includes the Commercial Finance Report, Diversity & Fair Housing Report, Environment Report, and more.
  
• Key Issue Summaries. So you want to know more about Small Business Health Plans or Bankruptcy Reform? Look no further. The issues at the forefront of the real estate industry are described here in an easy-to-understand format, with explanations of both NAR’s view on the topic and opposing views.
  
• Congressional Cosponsors. Now that you know the issues, you’ll want to take action by calling the legislators who are sponsoring the bills. Find out whom to contact at this page, where you can click on a bill for an alphabetical list of its cosponsors. Then you can search for your local representatives and voice your support or opposition. If your representatives are not cosponsors of NAR-supported legislation, you can contact them and ask them to sign on.
