Draft Net Neutrality Legislation Introduced

On January 20, Congressional Republicans unveiled draft legislation that would ban broadband providers from blocking, slowing down or speeding up access to specific websites but avoid using utility-like regulations to do so. Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR) and Sen. John Thune (R- SD) each introduced a discussion draft and held hearings on the topic.

NAR is pleased to see Congress address the need for open internet rules and believes the discussion drafts are a good start to this process. However, more work is needed to ensure that loopholes do not create opportunities for Internet Service Providers to engage in discriminatory behavior on the information super highway.
NAR is working with the legislation’s sponsors in the House and Senate to address our concerns.
