House Launches Bipartisan Privacy Working Group

On August 1, the leaders of a House subcommittee that regulates online commerce issues launched a bipartisan working group to examine online privacy issues and determine whether legislation is necessary to address concerns over the way companies are handling vast troves of data.

Reps. Marsha Blackburn, (R-Tenn.), and Peter Welch, (D-Vt.), will lead the nine-member group, whose goal is to tackle complex privacy issues “with a balanced approach that recognizes the need to protect personal information online in a manner that preserves growth and innovation.”
