IRS Seeking Taxpayer Advocacy Panel Members

Here’s a chance to tell the IRS how to improve service for taxpayers. The Internal Revenue Service is seeking volunteers to serve on the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP).

The TAP provides a forum for taxpayers to raise concerns about IRS service and offer suggestions for improvement. The TAP reports annually to the Secretary of the Treasury, the IRS Commissioner and the National Taxpayer Advocate, according to the March 10 announcement. Volunteer panel members serve a three year term, requiring 200 to 300 hours per year, with some government-reimbursed travel for training and meetings.

IRS said the TAP is seeking members in the following locations: Alaska, Arizona, California, Delaware, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Vermont, Virginia and International.

The panel is also looking for alternates for the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, North Dakota, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina and West Virginia.

Panel members will be considered and selected as individuals and not as representatives of NAR. Applications for the TAP will be accepted through April 11, IRS said. They are available online at http://www.improveirs.org.
