NAR Applauds Confirmation of Castro as HUD Secretary

Julian Castro, a three-term mayor of San Antonio, was confirmed Wednesday as the secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development by the U.S. Senate in a roll-call vote. NAR supported the appointment and, in a statement to the media, commended the U.S. Senate for confirming Castro.

Mayor Castro’s vision for strong communities and affordable housing is the right fit for HUD, which has helped make the dream of homeownership a reality for millions of Americans. NAR is encouraged by his record of achievement in revitalizing the city center in San Antonio and his commitment to public engagement and collaboration. Before the vote, Senator John Cornyn (R.-Nev.) said Castro is an "example that the American dream is still very much alive."

The 39-year-old Castro replaces Shaun Donovan, who will head the Office of Management and Budget.
