AE Institute Advisory Board
Information update:
In accordance with the AE Institute site selection process, which puts the Institute on a standard, four-region rotation, the 2014 AE Institute will be in the eastern region of the U.S. The AEC approved a recommendation by the AE Institute Advisory Board that the 2014 AEI site be negotiated for one of the following sites in this order: Philadelphia, PA; Atlanta, GA; and Baltimore, MD.
Travis Kessler, RCE, CAE, chief executive officer of the San Antonio Association of REALTORS®, is the recipient of the 2009 William R. Magel Award of Excellence. Travis will be recognized for this award at the 2009 REALTORS® Conference and Expo in Orlando.
RCE Certification Board
Information Item: The RCE Certification focused on marketing activities for the RCE designation program. The Board also discussed the current practice of sending out recertification stickers, and decided to discontinue this practice and instead to notify leadership when their AE has recertified (which is every four years). The Midyear RCE Leadership Luncheon will be held on Friday, May 15, 2009, and Monty Newman will speak on the benefits of being involved in politics as a REALTOR®.
AE Competency Work Group
Information Item: The purpose of the AE Competency Work Group is to determine how the AEC and local and state association staff and volunteer leaders can further benefit from the AE Competencies and Body of Knowledge document, which identifies the competencies in which an AE should be proficient to successfully serve REALTOR® association. The group brainstormed marketing ideas and how to best use this document.
AEC Association Models Work Group
Information Item: The work group is conducting a comprehensive review and update of the REALTOR® Association Models Planning Tool to be sure that it targets association operations that are pertinent in today's evolving REALTOR® organization. The Models planning tool is designed to assist associations with self-evaluation and planning through the use of three models of association management: Administrative, Management, and Leadership. The work group conducted an AE survey to gauge awareness and use of the planning tool. The survey results will guide the program revision and marketing efforts.
AEC Generational Communications Work Group
Information Item: The work group is working with NAR REALTOR.org and social media staff to create a Facebook guide that will help associations communicate with members/staff and serve as a tool for AEs to help their members use Facebook in their real estate business.
AEC Leadership Programming Work Group
Information update: The work group brainstormed topics and speakers for the November Leading Edge program, a two hour professional development program, tailored for AEs and volunteer leaders. The work group invited John Clemens, Hartwick Leadership Institute, who will present "Overcoming Resistance to Change or Reading the Writing on the Cave Wall."
AEC Profile Survey Work Group
Information Item: The work group is recommending that the Local and State Association Administrative Profile Survey be discontinued. The results of a profile survey focus group, which was formed to evaluate the Administrative Profile Survey, concluded that the survey results do not benefit day-to-day association operations. This decision is also supported by the poor response rate to the most recent version of the survey, which was conducted during the first quarter of 2009. There were 167 responses to this survey, compared to 363 responses to the 2007 survey. Much of the data in the 2009 survey is statistically invalid due to the low response rate. Instead, the work group will propose that smaller topical surveys be conducted on an as-needed basis. The work group will continue with the Compensation Profile Survey, which is conducted every two years. The next version will be distributed in March 2010.
NRDS Work Group
Information Item: The work group clarified definitions for NRDS status options. "Inactive" is to be used when a member is dropped for non-payment of dues and "terminated" is to be used when a member is dropped for failure to meet an outstanding duty or membership obligation.
The work group will prepare an FAQ to further explain the definitions. With these definitions in place, associations will begin to make appropriate record changes by January 1, 2010.
An archive system is being added to NRDS that will allow inactive, terminated, and suspended members to be separated from active members. Currently, a full "refresh" of data, which includes all members, can take up to 25 hours in some areas. With the new archive function, the refresh process will be much quicker.
Beginning in August the NRDS Daily Email notification will include a link, so POEs can receive the report in a newly designed HTML format that will be readable to all, regardless of the Internet service provider.
