NAR Leadership Academy: Qualifications

 

To graduate from the NAR Leadership Academy, participants will be required to attend all of the following sessions:

Session 1: Best Practices and Lessons Learned
November, Anaheim, CA: One full day before the start of the Annual meeting. Introductions and icebreaker activities. Session includes a panel of past NAR Presidents. Come to understand the NAR’s structure and scope and learn how things get done at the national level. Includes a communications workshop.

Session 2: NAR Governance Overview
Webinar: Presentation on the governing bodies and reporting structures of NAR featuring everything you’ve always wanted to know about committees, but were afraid to ask.

Session 3: REALTOR® Smith Goes to Washington
February, Washington D.C.: Prior to NAR's Federal Policy Conference, learn about NAR’s role in national politics and the collaboration and energy required by association leaders in the political arena. Academy participants join the conference attendees to discuss federal policy matters critical to REALTORS® and their clients.

Session 4: Leading to Face Industry Challenges
April, Chicago, IL: Two full days to learn how NAR leads the industry and the association. Building tour and meetings with key staff on NAR’s mission new initiatives. Workshops, discussions and interactive presentations round out the session.

Session 5: Building a Culture Through Ethical Leadership
May, Washington D.C.: The final Academy session will focus on leadership ethics and integrity. The program concludes with graduation and recognition at the NAR Executive Committee meeting.

Who Should Apply?
REALTOR® members who have leadership experience at the local and/or state, but have not yet been actively involved at the national level. The Academy is focused on developing participants' institutional, industry, and association knowledge.

REALTOR® members with demonstrated leadership abilities: Formal training from a local or state REALTOR® association, a JD, MBA, community or military leadership program(s); in lieu of formal training, be prepared to describe an incident or activity that had the most impact on your development as a leader; and REALTOR® members who are passionate about the industry and the issues.

You may be over qualified if:

  • Serve(d) as chairman on two or more NAR committees 
  • Serve(d) as NAR RVP 
  • Serve(d) on NAR Executive Committee 
  • Serve(d) on NAR Leadership Team or Extended Leadership Team 
  • Serve(d) as NAR committee liaison

Participants are selected through a committee process. Personal information, including name, is not shared with the committee; applications are judged on qualifications. Responses to industry challenges and leadership aspirations are given careful consideration, as they reflect personal point of view and vision.

  • State REALTOR® Officer or State Association Executive
  • Local Association Executive
  • Local REALTOR® Officer

The reference process is completed online via a secure URL, the information goes directly to NAR staff and is held in complete confidentiality.
