Meeting Summary
Work Group Purpose
Review the REALTOR® Association Models Online Planning Tool and revise/update the assessment questionnaire to ensure that it targets association operations that are pertinent in today's evolving REALTOR® organization.
AE Institute Meeting Summary – March 2009
The work group met during the 2009 AE Institute to review the REALTOR® Association Management Models on-line planning tool. Work group members had the opportunity to share their experience with the Models Online Planning Tool. Issues and concerns identified included:
• Many AEs don’t know it exists or how to utilize it
• Members don’t understand how to use it and the AEs don’t know how to engage them in the process
• Need more guidance on how to get leadership to view this as a valuable tool
• Several elements are missing from it, such as MLS, technology and social media
• More user-friendly; should be able to complete questionnaire in 30 minutes or less
• Hard to distinguish the difference between answers in questionnaire for each model; slows down questionnaire process
• Tool should be used to assess both current and desired (future) model of the organization in order to achieve best use
• Not used enough as a strategic planning tool
• Need to better promote the uses of the Models document
• Need more trained facilitators and better understanding of what role they can provide
• Need more buy-in and facilitation by states
• Need to better understand how to utilize the results and set priorities based on outcomes
Work group members reviewed a survey draft that will be disseminated to all AEs in April, with the results available prior to Midyear. The survey results will be used to determine how widely the Models are used and for what purposes.
Following the meeting homework was assigned to work group members in teams to review the five areas of the REALTOR Association Models document. Teams were asked to review additional elements, as identified during the meeting, and they were also asked to be sure that there is a clear differentiation in the topic descriptions across the three models.
Midyear Meeting Summary – May 2009
The work group met during the 2009 Midyear Legislative Meeting to review an updated draft of the Models document with revisions from each team’s homework assignment. The group discussed revisions and provided additional feedback. NAR staff will provide the work group with another revised copy for review.
A survey was disseminated to all AEs in April to determine how widely the Models are used and for what purposes. The work group reviewed the results at the meeting and will use the survey results to make the tool more effective, develop a marketing plan, create a facilitator process, and promote the planning tool with ideas of how to use it.
Next Steps:
The work group’s next steps include:
• Consider renaming the three models, so that they are not “leading”
• Tie results to tools and resources that are already on the NAR website, which can assist an organization with moving to the desired model
• Develop a marketing plan to promote the planning tool with ideas of how to use it
