AEC Profile Survey Work Group Report May 2008

Association Executives Committee
AEC Profile Survey Work Group
May 2008

Work Group Objective
To update the Local and State Profile compensation survey questionnaire, and the Local and State Profile administrative survey questionnaire; to assist with marketing the Profile survey to ensure a high response rate and valid statistics that become the baseline for industry standards in REALTOR® association management compensation and benefits, and administration

Background
Every two years, the AEC conducts a local association administrative survey and a local and state association compensation survey. To ensure the questionnaires’ relevancy, the Profile Survey Work Group reviews both survey questionnaires and updates them before they are disseminated. These surveys are administered by an outside vendor to ensure the confidentiality of the responses. The responses do not come to NAR.

The first meeting of the 2008 work group was at the 2008 Midyear Meetings in D.C. At that meeting, the work group offered input into the draft Administrative Profile Survey questionnaire.

Meeting Activity
Before breaking into three small groups to review the survey questions, the work group offered some general input on the Administrative Profile Survey questionnaire. Some of this input included the following:

. Reduce the repetition of boilerplate questions
. Merge all three sections into one comprehensive survey
. Leave no room for assumption when crafting survey questions
. If the survey is on-line, retain the ability to start it and then go back and finish it at a later date

The group broke into three small groups to review the questions in the following three sections of the Administrative Profile Survey questionnaire: Commercial & International, Management & Governance; and Technology & MLS. Because the work group was on a limited time schedule, it was agreed that everyone would complete their survey review after the Midyear Meetings.

Next Steps
Staff will collect everyone’s input during the summer and make the recommended changes to the survey piece. Staff will send the piece out to the work group to review one last time. The goal is to disseminate this survey to all local associations in early fall 2008.
