VOLUNTEER BUILD DAY
Making A Difference In the San Diego Community
REALTORS® raise the first wall of sponsored home in San Diego.
Last Friday (August 21) was a perfect day in San Diego for raising the first wall of the home that NAR is sponsoring in conjunction with its Conference & Expo to be held there Nov. 13 - 16. This is NAR’s first “green” constructed Habitat for Humanity home
In November, the home will be completed and dedicated to the future homeowners: Abdi Farah, his wife, Amran Abdi and their three young children Mohamed, 5; Mumtaaz, 3; and Masud, 1. They will put in hundred of hours of “sweat equity” and pay a low no-interest mortgage.
Abdi and Amran are originally from Somalia and spent their early years in refugee camps. They are now U.S. citizens and are very excited to achieve their American dream of homeownership. The family currently lives in a small two-bedroom apartment in a crime-ridden area. The apartment leaks, has poor water quality and is often cold in winter. Their new Habitat house will offer the family more space and a backyard for the children to play.

Future homeowner, Abdi Farah raises first wall of his home with NAR member volunteers: Susan Ahern, Sten Bjernefalt, Carolyn D’Agosta, Len Ferber, David Fletes, Sue Gourley, Kurt Kinsey, Mark Marchand, Dianne McMillan, Bjorn Nicols, Pat Russiano, Summer Scace, Sara Weis, Nick Weis and James Youel.
