Heather AbbottIt was April 15, 2013 – Marathon Monday in Boston, MA. Heather Abbott walked over to the Forum restaurant, located along the race route, to watch the end of the marathon. She heard a blast, which she instinctively turned to. Seconds later, there was another blast, so powerful that it blew her into the entrance of the Forum.
After waking, Heather tried to stand up, but couldn’t. Two strangers rescued her and got her into an ambulance. At the hospital, she underwent three surgeries and made the agonizing decision to amputate her left leg.
Since then, Heather has been determined to turn what was meant for evil into something good. She believes all those who lost limbs from a traumatic injury can triumph over the tragedy the way she has. (She now lives independently and even runs and paddle boards!)
Heather’s story of optimism and resilience is not to be missed!
