REALTORŪ AE Magazine Names Best REALTORŪ Association Web Sites

Chicago, April 19, 2011

Winners of the REALTORŪ AE magazine 9th annual Outstanding REALTORŪ Association Web Site Contest are featured in the upcoming spring issue due out May 6.

The five winners, one per association size category, are:

• the Portage County Association of REALTORSŪ, Ohio (www.portagerealtors.com) in the fewer than 300-members category;

• the Berkshire Association of REALTORSŪ, Mass. (www.berkshirerealtors.org/.com) in the 301-700 members category;

• the Dulles Area Association of REALTORSŪ, Va. (www.dullesarea.com) in the 701-2,000 members category;

• the REALTORSŪ Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh (www.realtorspgh.com) in the 2,001-7,000 members category;

• the Houston Association of REALTORSŪ (www.HAR.com) in the more than 7,000 members category.

In this, the first competition divided by association size, judges discovered that the best small association Web sites were more narrowly focused, accomplishing a few key goals very well, such as keeping members informed about association activities and news, and helping the public to locate REALTORSŪ more easily. In general, larger associations reached more widely and focused not only on disseminating market information, but also on providing members with tools to grow their businesses, such as blogs, custom newsletters, and customer lead generation.

Interestingly, association size mattered little when it came to Web site design and functionality, judges found. The best sites in every size category looked great and were easy to navigate. These sites also all had a sense of simplicity, leaving the useless technological bells and whistles of yesteryear—flashing icons, rolling banner ads, and long navigation lists—by the wayside.

The strategy of these five winning sites is to focus on what resources they can deliver best, regardless of their staff size or budget—a winning formula, indeed.

Created in 2001, the Outstanding REALTORŪ Association Web Site Contest traces trends and highlights innovation in REALTORŪ association Web site member service. Judges included the 2011-2012 REALTORŪ AE magazine editorial board and NAR staff. The 2012 competition will launch in January 2012. Stay tuned to REALTOR.org/RAE for details.

REALTORŪ Association Web Site Contest 2012

10th Annual Best of the Web Contest Opens Jan. 2012

Hundreds of associations of all sizes have entered RAE's Best of the Web competition over the years. The winners have provided outstanding insights into the services and resources a REALTOR association can offer online, from virtual education to social networking. Browse the 2010 winners here:

To enter in 2012:

In January, 2012, a link will be provided on this page to access the online entry form. Note that you cannot save your work and return to it so, a best practice is to copy and past the questions into a form (such as a Word document) that you can work on at your leisure to provide a detailed description of your association site and it's goals, then paste the answers back into the form (I know, not the pinnacle of functionality, but we do the best with what we have, no?).

DEADLINE is Feb. 3, 2012. Winners will be featured in the Spring issue of REALTOR AE magazine and online at REALTOR.org in May. Winners also receive a winner's logo to place on their winning site.
