When it comes to home remodeling projects, it’s what’s on the outside that counts…or at least what recoups the most value. According to the newly released 2011-12 Remodeling Cost vs. Value Report, inexpensive exterior replacement projects are expected to regain close to 70 percent of the cost of investment.
This data is consistent with reports from previous years that revealed specific exterior projects like siding, window, and door replacements enhance curb appeal and are attractive to potential buyers. In fact, seven of the top 10 most cost-effective projects are exterior improvements. Those include an upscale fiber-cement siding replacement (which can recoup 78 percent of costs upon resale) and a steel entry door replacement (expected to recoup 73 percent of costs).
