Housing Opportunity Program

Housing Opportunity Program Grants

Local and state REALTOR® associations can request financial support for programs and activities that create housing opportunities for area residents.  Since its creation in 2002, the Housing Opportunity Program has awarded more than $200,000 in funding to state and local REALTOR® associations.

What is Funded?

The grants can be used for activities such as housing symposiums, homebuyer resource Web sites and guides, counseling services, financial literacy efforts, homebuyer fairs, down payment assistance programs, or public opinion surveys.

Two Types of Housing Opportunity Grants, Two Opportunities for Funding

Local and state REALTOR® associations can apply for funding through the Ambassadors for Cities program or the Housing Opportunity Fund (formerly known as the State and Local Initiatives Fund). Individual REALTORS® are not eligible for grants.

The Ambassadors for Cities program, created in 2004, recognizes REALTOR® associations and mayors who work together to create ongoing programs and activities aimed at expanding housing opportunities in their communities. The program's goal is to highlight successful private/public partnerships that serve as models to other communities around the United States. Designees receive a $5,000 grant to be used to support the program.  Read more >

The Housing Opportunity Fund (formerly known as State and Local Initiatives Fund), created in 2006, supports a wide range of housing opportunity programs with grants of up to $5,000. To be considered, programs should support the mission of the NAR Housing Opportunity Program.  Read more >
