Housing Opportunity Program
Housing Opportunity Program Grants
The Housing Opportunity Fund (formerly known as the State and Local Initiatives Fund) supports a wide range of housing opportunity programs. To be considered, programs should support the Housing Opportunity Program's mission of positioning REALTORS® as leaders in creating housing opportunities. Grants of up to $5,000 are awarded in April and October. Learn about past grant recipients and their programs.
Grant Regulations
- Associations cannot submit an application for a program/event previously funded by the Housing Opportunity Fund
- Grants cannot be used to fund a program/event completed prior to the selection process, which typically occurs one month after the application due date
- Applications must be signed by the Executive Officer of the association requesting funding
- Applications from individual REALTORS® will not be accepted
- Funds that are not used within one year of receipt must be returned to NAR
- Grant recipients must complete a post-grant self evaluation within 90 days of the completion of the program/event for which funding was received
Judging Criteria
A review committee made up of members of the NAR Housing Opportunity Advisory Board will evaluate all applications and select the associations that will receive funding. Applicants will be notified of the committee's decisions approximately one month after the application deadline. The committee will rate each application on the following:
- The quality, effectiveness, and innovativeness of the program or activity
- How well the program or activity supports the goals of the Housing Opportunity Program
- How easily the program can be replicated by other REALTOR® associations
- The extent to which funding will enlarge or enhance the program
- The level of commitment of the REALTOR® association: financial contribution, volunteer time, staff time, etc.
How to Apply
NAR is considering applications twice in 2008. The deadline for first round applications has passed. Second round applications are due to NAR by October 3.
