Housing Opportunity Program
Ambassadors for Cities
Events
Ambassadors for Cities designees must organize public events at which their awards are presented by representatives from NAR and the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM). Both the association president/chairman and the Mayor should be present at the event. The goal of publicly presenting the Ambassadors awards is to generate media attention. Additionally the public forum provides an opportunity for participants to celebrate their successful partnership, highlight local successes, outline remaining affordable housing challenges, and chart a course to overcome these obstacles.
The event must be open to the public to ensure participation from the community. The event should have a direct tie to the program for which the Ambassadors for Cities award has been given. Examples of suitable events include (but are not limited to) a ceremony at the home of a community member who has purchased a home by using the program being recognized, an affordable housing ground breaking ceremony, an awards event to recognize the coalition partners involved in the program, a press event highlighting the program being recognized or similar event. Having the award presentation occur during a regularly scheduled membership or board meeting/luncheon would NOT qualify as an appropriate public event.
