REALTOR® Ambassadors for Cities Initiative

REALTORS® are truly the ambassadors for cities and towns around the country. They are often the first point of contact for new residents and potential homeowners. Not only do REALTORS® help people find a place to live, they also understand homebuyers and sellers and their communities better than anyone.

Because of the unique role REALTORS® play in their communities, the National Association of REALTORS® and the U.S. Conference of Mayors launched the REALTOR® Ambassador for Cities initiative in early 2003. The goal of this partnership is to bring together local mayors and REALTORS® to work together to increase the number of affordable housing units in the rental and ownership segments of the market in a specific community. The program highlights successful private/public partnerships that serve as models to other communities around the United States.

Ambassador Events
Each year, NAR recognizes several REALTOR® associations and mayors who have worked together to create ongoing programs and activities aimed at expanded housing opportunities in their communities.

Each Ambassadors for Cities designee must organize a public event at which they will receive their plaques. In the past, some associations have arranged for NAR and USCM to participate in the events related to the program for which they won the award. Others create a press event, dinner banquet or symposium and incorporate NAR and the USCM. The goal of publicly presenting the Ambassadors awards to the REALTORS® and mayors is to generate national and local media attention.

Each Ambassador event will either highlight successful affordable housing programs or will bring mayors and REALTORS® together to create a new initiative.
