First Quarter 2001
2001: Focus on You and the CIPS Brands!
By Jorge Cantero, CIPS, CRB, CRS, GRI
It is with great enthusiasm that I begin my year as chair of the international Operations Committee. I have had the pleasure of watching the NAR international program grow over the past 10 years and have appreciated the opportunities to contribute and be a part of our current success. So, it is with particular excitement that I consider my objectives for the coming year, and invite all of you, as CIPS Network members, to join me in accomplishing these goals.
First, I believe that the creation of the International Consortium is, perhaps, the most significant event ever in global organized real estate. Those organizations that participate will reap significant benefits not only for their members who are focused on international transactions, but also for those whose practice is very local.
Consortium membership will strengthen even the largest and strongest national organization, and will help bring smaller and more developing
organizations into the world market. In the case of country organizations that remain undecided, I look to you CIPS Network members in those countries, along with the U.S. volunteer liaisons and Ambassador Associations, to reach out and encourage these organizations to seriously explore Consortium membership.
Next, I plan to focus on increased benefits to those of you who are CIPS designees. While it is ultimately up to each of you individually to make the most of your education and experience, I want to support policies and encourage activities that will remind you each and every
day of the value of your professional education and affiliation. I invite all CIPS designees to consider what more the CIPS Network might do to help you in your international business efforts and let us know what it is. You can e-mail your ideas to the CIPS Network Advisory Group at NARglobe@realtors.org.
At the same time as we focus on your individual needs, I plan to concentrate on increasing the awareness of the CIPS brand outside the real estate community as a way of enhancing business opportunities for all of us. This is a challenge faced by all organizations that provide
education and professional accreditation for an industry. Again—you, as an individual, can help by communicating your CIPS Network affiliation
and its value to your prospective clients and customers. I believe we can also do more as an organization, and I welcome your input.
A final core objective of mine for the coming year is to work more closely with the NAR Institutes, Societies and Councils on programs
and activities that would mutually benefit our respective memberships. Our agreement with the CCIM Institute, recognizing the expertise
CCIMs bring to the CIPS Finance and Investment course is just one example of the value of cooperation and partnership. Did you know that 50 percent of CIPS Network designees and candidates also have earned at least one other professional designation? The ties are already in place and the cooperative benefits can be broad and far-reaching. Finally, there are particular opportunities for members of our bilateral Cooperating Associations, which can only be achieved through
increased collaboration.
While I’ve encouraged you in this column to communicate with us on specific matters, you should know that all your ideas and input are
appreciated. And, much like our recent election in the U. S. (and I know whereof I speak, being a resident of Florida), taking the time to voice your opinion can make a difference. So, whether you choose to call, write, e-mail, or participate in future surveys, please make an effort to have your voice heard over this next year. Help us as we work to provide the types of information and membership services you want and need from us! |
