Consortium Launched in Washington
By Carol S. Weinrich
May 13, 2001 was the official launch date of the International Consortium of Real Estate Associations. On this date, 23 national associa-tions signed an agreement—either at the Plenary Session in Washington, DC, or in coun-terpart in their home country. The Consortium Agreement signatories were from the national real estate organizations of Argentina, Australia,
Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong (China), Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Greece, Guatemala, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States, Venezuela. In addition, three umbrella groups signed with “observer” status.
Immediately after the official formation of the Consortium, the group elected a seven-member Executive Committee that will act as the equivalent of a board of directors. Two co-chairs preside over this Executive Committee: Sharon Millet, CIPS, representing NAR (U.S.) and Cormac Meehan, CIPS, representing IAVI (Ireland). The other five organizations represented on the Executive Committee are: REIA (Australia), CREA (Canada), AMPI (Mexico), NVM (Netherlands) and NAEA (United Kingdom). Executive Committee appoint-ments are for staggered one-year terms. Watch this newsletter for news of the Consortium Website and standards development work. The next Plenary Session is scheduled for November 2, 2001 in Chicago. |
