NEW LEGAL PUBLICATION REAL ESTATE BROKERAGE ESSENTIALS®: MANAGING LEGAL & BUSINESS ISSUESRELEASED FROM THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®
Chicago (September 27, 2006) – The NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® (NAR) today announced the release of its new REALTOR Benefits(sm) Publication, Real Estate Brokerage Essentials®: Managing Legal and Business Issues. This publication, created by NAR’s legal staff and industry experts, has been designed as a comprehensive legal guide specifically for brokers to help them minimize their risks of legal liability.
Formerly published under the title Don’t Risk It!, this latest version includes updated information about several recent government requirements including do not call, email and fax regulations, property disclosures, antitrust and agency/broker relationships. Many new case studies are included as well as tools to assist brokers in creating legal documents and policies for the traditionally complex broker business model.
“Brokers face legal risk every day. NAR strives to provide them with the knowledge and awareness to keep that risk from turning into actual lawsuits. In this manual, our legal staff identifies the situations that most frequently result in litigation and provides practical advice as to the best business policies and practices for staying out of court. There are also many case summaries that help put the issues into a framework familiar to brokers,” said Laurene K. Janik, NAR General Counsel. “This is a terrific lawsuit prevention guide for every broker’s office.”
“It is NAR’s responsibility to help brokers manage their businesses effectively, and with so many new cases that could potentially close a broker’s office, this manual is the ultimate guide to managing potential lawsuits. Industry experts and NAR’s own legal staff has created this manual that will help brokers recognize and deal with situations that most frequently result in litigation,” said Bob Goldberg, NAR Senior Vice President of Marketing & Business Development.
The new publication also serves as a training resource for brokers to develop risk management classes for their offices. Included at no additional cost are several training modules on the most relevant topics that may be customized to their needs.
“NAR, and the Association leadership at large, strives to do everything it can to ensure members are provided with the professional information they need to better serve the public and be more successful in their profession,” said Martha Taylor, Executive Vice President of the Baldwin County Association of REALTORS®, Fairhope, AL. “This publication is exactly the kind of information that is valuable to help our members be more productive and run a successful business. So much so, we (the Baldwin County Association) have purchased hundreds of copies that will be distributed at upcoming Broker/Manager Forums in Alabama.”
Copies of Real Estate Brokerage Essentials®: Managing Legal and Business Issues are $49.95 for NAR members ($69.95 for non-members). The publication may be purchased online at www.REALTOR.org/Store or by calling 1-800-874-6500 (press option ‘1’ and mention item 126-358).
The REALTOR Benefitssm Program offers members practical solutions for their business and personal lives on the publications, products and services that they use every day. The program includes offerings from more than 30 companies recognized as leaders in their respective industries and more than 100 publications and products designed to educate real estate professionals and their clients on topics ranging from legal issues and risk management to business development and marketing. In addition, use of the REALTOR Benefitssm Program results in revenue to NAR which helps keep NAR membership dues low.
