|More about the design: A blue star anchors the REALTOR« Party name and is the “stamp” of NAR’s mark on Washington, DC. Three red waving stripes stand for the three elements of the REALTOR« Party event: legislative activities, association meetings and the trade expo. The stripes can also refer to the three levels of government NAR has an impact on: local, state and federal. The serif font pairs nicely with NAR’s Garamond font on the left side.|
Why the name change?
NAR used to hold three meetings each year: Mid-Winter (January/February), Midyear (May) and Annual (November). The Mid-Winter meetings were discontinued in 1999, but the Midyear name continued to be used until this year.
NAR has held meetings in the middle of the year throughout its history – sometimes the annual convention was held then, or more often the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and other key committees would convene for business meetings. Around 1962, the meetings became a more coordinated event officially called the May Meetings. In 1980, the meeting was moved to late April, and since the May Meetings name no longer applied, the name was changed to the Midyear Meetings. In 1983, the Midyear Meetings switched locations from Chicago to Washington, DC, but the name stayed the same.
The Midyear Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo name was recently discussed at the 2014 Meeting & Conference Committee Meeting. The committee recommended changing the name to better reflect the true scope and nature of this event. The REALTOR« Party Convention & Trade Expo goes beyond just meetings and legislative activities. It’s an important gathering of NAR members and association leaders that crosses party lines to get at the heart of real estate market issues.

What is the REALTOR« Party Convention & Trade Expo?
The REALTOR« Party Convention & Trade Expo is the event where REALTORS« and association leaders come together to speak in unison on issues that pertain to real estate. And it’s an opportunity for all members to respond to and initiate change at all levels of government – federal, state and local. Held each May in Washington, DC, the event is “campaign headquarters” for important discussions about real estate policy and membership involvement in political initiatives. The trade expo, with 100 exhibitors in 20,000 total square feet, is a key relationship-building event where vendors can network with top real estate leaders and where REALTORS« can learn more about services and technologies from partners who are invested in their industry.
