Support Formerly Homeless Veterans and Pack An Extra Suit for Midyear Legislative Meetings!

NAR is once again teaming up with US Vets, Inc. to benefit formerly homeless veterans in the Washington, DC area. As these veterans transition into a new life locating new employment opportunities is often the next step after finding a home. Unfortunately, some of these brave men and women who served our country often lack the resources for appropriate business attire required for interviews and job sites. With your help, they can make a great first impression at a job interview and have good clothes for the new job!
We are asking REALTORS® to bring interview-ready suits and related items to the midyear meetings here in Washington, DC. Both men and women suits are needed for the veterans. Any other accessories would be useful as well – neck ties, shirts, blouses, etc. It’s simple, just put an extra suit in your luggage before leaving for Washington, DC and drop your items in bins located in the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, Hall A (NAR Staff Offices).
NAR first partnered with US Vets in November 2007 serving as host sponsor of their inaugural Veterans Day Golf Tournament. Despite a bit of uncooperative weather, the tournament was a smashing success. Later that month US Vets hosted 2009 President-Elect, Charles McMillan and Vice President, Vicki Cox Goulder at their Las Vegas site as the REALTORS® and veterans celebrated the Veterans Day holiday together.
U.S. VETS is the largest non-profit organization in the country dedicated to helping homeless and at-risk veterans, and a nationally recognized leader in the field of service delivery to veterans. U.S. VETS provides housing in conjunction with clinical counseling and employment assistance. Additionally, coordinating services with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and other partners brings in resources that foster the skills necessary for every veteran to return to the community, remain self-sufficient, and break the cycle of homelessness.
