COMMERCIAL INDEX HITS RECORD HIGH

NARs Commercial Leading Indicator for Brokerage Activity rose 0.5 percent in second quarter 2007 to a reading of 120.7, the highest on record. The gain comes against a downwardly revised reading of 120.1 in the first quarter. The index is 1.1 percent higher than the second quarter of 2006 when it stood at 119.7. This is the ninth consecutive improvement for the index, which is design to predict future commercial market performance. "The latest data suggests improved business opportunities for commercial real estate practitioners in the months ahead," says Lawrence Yun, NARs senior economist.

HILL AGENDA TO INCLUDE TERRORISM INSURANCE

The House is scheduled to take up legislation that NAR says will help ensure the continued flow of commercial real estate deals by providing a federal terrorism insurance backstop. NAR-backed H.R. 2761 would help keep private insurers in the market by extending federal insurance involvement another 15 years.
