The Lone REALTOR® -- A Successful Project for One.
Who: Ouida Spencer RE/MAX Executives Inc., Atlanta, GA
What: Finding homes for the disabled.
How she did it: REALTOR® Ouida Spencer, a long-time volunteer and loan company manager, was asked by United Cerebral Palsy of Georgia if she thought she could find a home for a client. Ouida thinks beyond disabilities and sees only abilities. She helps move her clients out of barely existing in rest homes to independent, productive working lives. She does most of the work herself, including traveling around the state to look at properties before they’re sold. Ms. Spencer does rely on other REALTORS® to help find homes as well as contractors to remodel homes with ramps and doors that can accommodate wheelchairs. In 26 years she has located homes for hundreds of disabled persons, some whom have never lived in a home of their own.
Why she keeps doing it: “I feel very fortunate to be a small part of the positive change this puts in their lives and will do whatever it takes to open the doors for these people and let them live with dignity. If you take the time to put yourself in their position and their circumstance how could you do otherwise?”
