The Association: A Large-Scale Project Than Can Begin Small

Who: Mason County Association of REALTORS®

What: Adopting the Washington Association of REALTORS® “Quality of Life” Program.

How they did it: After participating in a “Quality of Life” workshop, the Mason Co. Association of REALTORS® formed their own committee, tailoring their needs with a two-pronged approach: public relations and government affairs. They created an outline of what they hoped to accomplish, scaled down from the original “Quality of Life” program to suit their needs. The idea was to tackle issues that affect the industry while working to enhance the image of REALTORS®. A press release was sent to local newspapers in Shelton, WA and brochures were distributed at fairs, public gatherings and a local oyster festival. They worked with local government to build a better Mason County and in doing so, created a spirit of cooperation between the REALTORS®, city and county officials. Those officials now look to the REALTORS® for information, resources and know-how before they go into session.

Why they keep doing it: “What our committee represents is good people being good citizens. They’re REALTORS® out helping and thriving as a result,” says Stacey Ogg, one of the committee’s first chairpersons. “Plus, the public image of our REALTORS® just soared.”
