Only NAR-authorized instructors may teach Expanding Housing Opportunities (EHO). Instructors are selected through a competitive application process, which is outlined below. Approved instructors pay a $100 instructor fee and sign an Instructor Agreement. The instructor term is a two-year period and is renewable if all requirements have been met.
An instructor training session will take place on May 15, 2014 in Washington, DC. Applications and reference forms are due March 14. Review the process and requirements below and download the application and reference form.
To be considered you must meet the following requirements:
- A minimum of two years’ experience in the real estate profession
- Significant teaching experience; especially in training real estate professionals
- Experience speaking to medium-to-large size groups
- Experience and familiarity with affordable housing and topics such as workforce housing
Take Expanding Housing Opportunities
You need to take Expanding Housing Opportunities to experience the class as a student. In addition to being offered throughout the year by authorized sponsors, EHO is also offered during the annual REALTORS Conference and Expo and the Midyear Legislative Meetings and Expo.
Attend a Train the Trainer Session
You need to successfully complete a Train the Trainer session. The Train the Trainer is an all-day session and usually held during the annual REALTORS Conference and Expo and the Midyear Legislative Meetings and Expo.
The first segment focuses on general teaching and presentation concepts. The second segment covers the responsibilities of instructors and other EHO-specific information. You will also give a teaching demonstration of a pre-assigned section of the EHO class materials.
The Train-the-Trainer Facilitator will assess your ability to teach the EHO class based on your understanding of the class materials, your ability to respond to questions and your performance of the assigned demonstration exercise. Based on these evaluations, the Facilitator will recommend to NAR staff whether or not you should become an authorized Instructor for Expanding Housing Opportunities.
Pay the Instructor Fee and Sign the Instructor Agreement
If you become an authorized instructor you will pay a $100 instructor fee and sign the Instructor Agreement, which sets forth the requirements, terms and related expectations NAR has established.
Instructor Term and Renewal
Authorized instructors may teach EHO for a two-year term. The term can be renewed for another two years provided you have taught at least one class in the preceding term, continue to meet the requirements, and complete the Instructor Renewal Agreement. There will be a $50 renewal fee.
Teaching the Class
Authorized instructors may teach EHO anywhere the class is offered by an authorized sponsor. You are eligible to receive compensation for the training you provide. Compensation is negotiated between you and the sponsor. NAR does not provide guidance in this area.
