Roadmap for New AEs : Professional Development

Where Can I Learn to Be a Better AE?

There are many ways that new association executives -- and veterans -- can receive the appropriate training to make sure their associations run like a well-oiled machine. NAR offers home-study courses for the basics, more advanced training leading up to a designation exam to become a REALTOR® Association Certified Executive, as well as an annual educational conference just for REALTOR® Association Executives and their staff specialists. There are also education opportunities at other NAR meetings and a special relationship with Duke University where AEs can earn a Certificate in Nonprofit Management.

Independent Study Courses

Association Executives Institute
A four-day educational and networking experience for association executives. The Institute delivers curriculum focusing on competences critical to the future success of the REALTOR® organization.

RCE: the AE Designation
The REALTOR association Certified Executive (RCE) Designation is the only professional designation designed specifically for REALTOR® AEs. AEs complete a two-step process to earn the RCE. First, they earn points by documenting their experience and education on an applicant data form (ADF). After achieving a minimum number of points on the ADF, candidates complete a written exam.

Education Opportunities at the National Meetings
The NAR Midyear and Annual meetings provide many opportunities for AEs to network with other AEs from across the country during committee meetings, forums, and special sessions. There is even an Association Management Roundtable session designed specifically to allow AEs to share ideas and discuss issues and concerns with other AEs. Check out the NAR Meetings Web page for meeting schedules and sessions.

Additional Educational Opportunities

The The University of Chicago Strategies in Nonprofit Management Certificate Program AEs are invited to enroll in the full certificate program, which encompasses the challenges of a real classroom setting with personalized pre- and post-work assignments. By completing four core and two optional full day courses, participants will earn a Certificate in Strategies in Nonprofit Management from the University of Chicago Graham School.
