2005 Midyear Meetings: NAR's Virtual Office Web Site Policy News
At the 2005 Midyear Legislative Meetings, the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS'® (NAR) Virtual Office Web site (VOW) policy was in tight focus. To resolve a 20-month dispute with the U.S. Department of Justice over certain elements of its VOW policy, NAR took the initiative and authorized its leadership to develop a single, uniform policy governing the display of Multiple Listing Service data on Internet Web sites. It also postponed the implementation of its existing VOW policy until January 1, 2006, to allow time to develop the new policy.
The NAR Board of Directors approved a revised IDX (Internet Data Exchange) during the 2005 Midyear Meetings. The revised IDX policy serves as the foundation for NAR's continuing discussions with the U.S. Department of Justice. It is possible that the IDX policy may serve as the basis for a simple, comprehensive MLS/Internet policy. Implementation information, including model rules and updated FAQs, will be provided when available.
