Hurricane Katrina Relief

FAQ

How can I help?
The most important need right now is for money. You can donate online at our secure site or by check. Please make your checks payable to the REALTORS® Relief Foundation, NAR Finance Division, 430 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60611-4087. In the months to come, you may be able to donate material goods and services. We'll keep you posted as we get new information.

I'd really like to help in person. Should I drive to an affected area?
The Federal Emergency Management Association advises citizens not to visit affected areas unless directed by a voluntary agency. Self-dispatched volunteers can put themselves and others in harm’s way and hamper rescue efforts. If you're interested in volunteering for the American Red Cross on a long-term basis, contact your local Red Cross chapter. There you can learn about the training courses necessary to become a disaster volunteer. For more information, visit your local Red Cross chapter online. FEMA also lists organizations that are accepting volunteer help.

Where will my donation go?
Donations to the REALTORS® Relief Foundation will go to aid relief efforts in affected states.

How can I get a tax receipt for my donation?
If you contribute online at our secure site you'll automatically get a confirmation page that's printable. That is your receipt. Print it out. You will not receive an e-mail with the confirmation.

If you send a check to the REALTORS® Relief Foundation, your cancelled check is your receipt. IRS rules state that if you make a contribution of $250 or more, a donation acknowledgement letter will be sent to you from the REALTORS® Relief Foundation by the deadline of Jan. 31, 2006.

How can I donate blood?
To find out where you can donate, visit www.givelife.org or call 800/GIVE-LIFE (800/448-3543).

Where can I publicize housing that I have available to aid victims?
Various organizations have established listservs and bulletin boards to share this information. To access several, click http://www.realtor.org/realtorae.nsf/pages/katrinahousing.
