“The time is now,” 2014 NAR President Steve Brown told association leaders gathered at the outset of his presidency. Brown's presidential theme — his call for urgency — centered on making the REALTOR® organization more valuable and more responsive to its members.
Brown’s message resonated strongly at all levels.
The association raised the bar in 2014, setting new standards of professionalism for the nation’s 1,400 state and local REALTOR® associations. In Washington, NAR-backed issues were one of the bipartisan bright spots. REALTORS® achieved legislative and regulatory victories on flood insurance, mortgage debt tax forgiveness, mortgage qualification rules, flood insurance, and more. Meanwhile, the association’s Legal Action Program ensured adequate funding for cases of great significance to the industry and the association. For consumers, NAR represented the trusted voice on key topics, including home ownership. With 145 billion consumer impressions, reached through an integrated media campaign, NAR was The Voice for Real Estate® in 2014. And NAR membership offered significant value to real estate professionals—from original research and other business intelligence to educational opportunities and special discounts and offers.
