Economists' Commentary: Research's Member Spotlight
August 31, 2009
By Meredith Dunn, Research Communications Representative
Each month, NAR Research will be spotlighting a member who has gone above and beyond in their use of Research data, surveys, and other products. These members are featured for their dedication to market data and in their efforts to get the best and most timely housing information to their customers and to fellow Realtors®. If you think you should be in the spotlight, or know a member that you feel should be spotlighted, please send an e-mail to us at data@realtors.org.
Theresa Barnabei has had two major interests for much of her life: Real Estate and training people to reach their full potential. She has been a Realtor® with Long Realty in Tuscon, AZ for 12 years, during which time she was a Sales Manager, Associate Manager and Branch Manager. Before becoming a Realtor®, she was involved in Real Estate investment. Nowadays, she is also the CEO of Course Creators, an organization that is geared towards training Realtors® to reach their full potential through energetic training programs. She is also a dynamic speaker and spoke at the 2008 Realtors® Conference and Expo in Orlando at the forum "Turning NAR Statistics Into Success," to a very enthusiastic crowd. Despite her busy training schedule, we were able to ask Theresa a few questions about what she finds most useful from www.realtors.org/research.
"As a Realtor®, I have been able to better understand my clients and have at my fingertips enough information to ask the right questions," Theresa says. "As a trainer, I have a wealth of information to share with agents on exactly how to 'show up' in their business dealings with buyers and sellers because of the profile information. [With Research data], I can help them know where to spend their time, energy, effort and money based on customer expectations!"
Theresa has been making use of Research data for about 4 years. Her favorite Research product? Hands down, it would have to be the Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers. "There is so much valuable information there, it is too good to pass up and almost a shame to not know what is in it!" Theresa says. It's also the one Research tool she'd strongly recommend to other Realtors®. "Let's face it, if our clients in these profile statistics are telling us exactly how to show up, then why wouldn't we do that?"
In addition, she finds the Profile comes in handy for her daily work. "Course Creators now produces a training video called 'Practical Conversations' that teaches dialogue to go along with the [Profile] statistics. The best part though is to see the look on Realtors®' faces when they get the value of the information and the application of the information!!"
If she had one recommendation for Research, it would be to deepen our statistics on designations. Theresa says she'd like to see "deeper statistics for the specialties and designations like Green, SRES, etc." While Research has no current plans to pursue this, it is definitely something to think of for future surveys and iterations of the Profile of Homebuyers and Sellers.
Finally, Theresa will be speaking again this year on "Turning NAR Statistics into Success" at the 2009 Realtors® Expo and Conference in San Francisco. This is a must-see opportunity for you to learn how to "Get It, Use It and Become More Successful Because Of It!," in regards to using the newest 2009 Profile statistics.
