Realty Pros Can Get Advice About Safety
Between 1992 and 2002, 86 real estate professionals across the country fell victim to violent acts, including 63 that were killed. REALTORS® are trying to put a stop to these heinous acts
The still-unsolved murder of Windermere Real Estate agent Mike Emert in a Seattle suburb in early 2001 helped prompt the National Association of REALTORS® to create REALTOR® Safety Week, to be held each September.
The Albuquerque Metropolitan Board of REALTORS ® in New Mexico did not offer its members any programs during the first Realtor Safety Week last year, but the murder of local agent Garland Taylor in August warranted a change. The board has planned a session with a personal security consultant and eventually will include safety tips into its new-member orientation programs. Meanwhile, many REALTOR® associations have expressed interest in the RealGuard Personal Security Alarm created by Misiu Systems LLC President and CEO Todd Hodgen. The $320 device, available to Realtors through their associations, features a panic button that sets off alarms in the listed house and the agent's car.
