Home Mortgage Rates Hit Six-Month Low
The national average commitment rate on a 30-year mortgage dropped over the past week from 5.69 percent to a six-month low of 5.64 percent, Freddie Mac reports.
Interest on 15-year fixed loans declined as well, slipping from 5.07 percent to 5.01 percent.
Meanwhile, the one-year adjustable mortgage rate tumbled from 4.02 percent to 3.96 percent.
Freddie Mac chief economist Frank Nothaft says low mortgage rates helped bolster home sales in September.
