Miss.: Assoc. Accepting Hurricane Relief Applications
The Mississippi REALTORŪ Hurricane Relief Fund, established by the Mississippi Association of REALTORSŪ after Hurricane Katrina struck Aug. 29, announced Thursday that it’s now accepting applications for relief assistance from victims of Hurricane Katrina. Mississippi is the first of the three state REALTORŪ associations in the states most affected by hurricane damage to start taking applications for relief assistance.
Open to any resident of Mississippi, relief applications will be reviewed by MAR’s six-member board of directors every few days, according to the association. Approved applicants will receive relief amounts up to $2,500 per applicant. Assistance will be granted only for damage sustained to an applicant’s primary residence and will help cover mortgage payments and insurance deductibles, the association said.
The two-page application form is a PDF document that can be downloaded off of the MAR Web site. Applications must be filled out and mailed or faxed to MAR as indicated on the application form.
If applicants have questions about the application, they can call 601/932-5241 or send an e-mail message to hurricanerelief@msrealtors.org.
Donations are still pouring into the affected states from REALTORSŪ and other state and local associations. To date, a total of $2,740,482 has been collected from 6,865 donors to the REALTORSŪ Relief Foundation, which is administered by the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORSŪ. Every penny contributed to RRF will go to the state relief funds and be funneled to hurricane victims. NAR is absorbing all administrative costs.
