Mortgage Loan Concerns Drive Internet Traffic
Worry over the housing crisis is turning “foreclosure” into one of the hottest search terms on the Internet.
In June, people entered 1.8 billion searches for the term “foreclosure,” according to research firm comScore, which tracks searches. That’s a 117 percent increase from 12 months ago.
Searches for foreclosure attorneys on Avvo.com, a Web site where users rate lawyers, rose 800 percent in six months.
Foreclosure.com and HUD.gov, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development site, are two of the busiest sites in the category. HUD.com, a non-government site that offers tips to those facing foreclosure, rose 228 spots to become one of the top sites visited by those searching for “foreclosure.”
