Golf Course Communities Lure Buyers
Golf course developments continue to do well despite the sluggish economy.
Some of the most successful are relatively moderate-priced projects built around public courses.
For instance, the new Bowes Creek Country Club in suburban Chicago is a joint effort between Toll Brothers and the city of Elgin. Toll will build 931 homes on the 616-acre site and the city will manage and maintain the course. Some of the homes are already built and the course opens in September.
Another new golf course community in the Chicago area is built by J. Lawrence homes. It has an 18-hole course, a driving range, community clubhouse, fitness center and pool. Only about 20 percent of those buying say they actually play golf. Most are choosing the development for its attractive views of grass and woods.
