  Determining Your Audience

Your program should address all of the organization’s major constituencies.
  • The news media is usually the principal focus of public relations because (good) news coverage is, of course, advertising that money can’t buy.
  • Users and potential users of your organization’s services should be a principal focus, and the word “user” should be interpreted broadly to identify all those who benefit or could benefit from its efforts.
  • Community and citizenry should be addressed, because your organization exists in a civic milieu that can be either supportive or nonsupportive.
  • Government at all levels can either advance your organization or limit its productivity and growth.
