Learning to be a good meeting facilitator is like learning to play a sport. You can memorize the rules and learn the basic plays quickly, but it takes practice to do it well.

If you want your next sales meeting to be met with smiles instead of groans, trying following these useful tips.
1. Prepare an agenda and handouts ahead of time.

2. Start on time.

3. Stick to the agenda.

4. Tell a joke to break the ice.

5. Explain the meeting’s objectives.

6. Don’t interrupt the meeting for latecomers.

7. Assign one person not in the meeting to handle all phone calls until the meeting is over.

8. Use a quiet, well-lighted room with good ventilation.

9. Give clear instructions for each activity; speak slowly.

10. Don’t let discussion go on too long.

11. Quicken the pace of activities from time to time to keep people alert.

12. Don’t let one person dominate the discussion.

13. Compliment participants on good ideas.

14. Share your own ideas to get the discussion going, but don’t do all the talking.

15. Ask individual participants to recap a section to ensure understanding.

16. Ask someone to take notes and distribute them later to all participants.
