Tips for Staying Motivated
Even with a sincere desire to help others, volunteering can be frustrating at times. Consider these points if you feel like you want to quit.

· Remind yourself why you volunteered. Most people have an innate desire to help others.-- Ronald Phipps, 2001 Good Neighbor Awards Honorable Mention

· Ask yourself, “If I don’t do it, who will?”--Matthew Schrum, 2001 Good Neighbor Award winner

· Look at the news: low high-school graduation rates, eighth-graders not being able to read. Something there will motivate you every day.--Oral Lee Brown, 2000 Good Neighbor Award winner

· Give yourself a break. If you think you’re burning out, ask your volunteer group for a short leave of absence.

· Visit those who benefit from your volunteer efforts to see improvements that resulted in part from your efforts.--Martha Dent, RE/MAX Associates of Arlington, Arlington, Texas

· Don’t expect change overnight. Any big challenge can only be overcome gradually. Instead congratulate on smaller, incremental achievements.

· Take on different responsibilities within the organization for a change of pace.--Matthew Schrum, 2001 Good Neighbor Awards Winner
