  Keeping Personnel Records

It’s important to maintain personnel records even after a salesperson or employee has left the company. Personnel documentation should include
  • Advertisements used for hiring (to demonstrate equal opportunity in hiring)
  • Proof of citizenship or I-9 Immigration Employment Eligibility Verification Form
  • Resumes and any tests used during the hiring process
  • Independent contractor agreement or employment agreement, if applicable
  • Records of performance evaluations and sales records
  • Sale and purchase agreements, if relevant
  • Commission payments and other compensation (payroll records for employees)
  • Documentation of events leading to termination
  • Any continuation of benefits, such as health insurance
