Member Information
Why do REALTORS® need a credit union? Many REALTORS® are independent contractors or small business owners. Their unique financial profiles can make it harder to secure personal credit, and they have special needs related to their businesses. Because REALTORS® Federal Credit Union membership will be limited to REALTORS® and others in closely related fields, it can offer a range of special services that respond to the needs of its members.
Who can join? Unlike banks, membership in a credit union is open only to a specific group, called a “field of membership.” The field of membership for the REALTORS® Federal Credit Union is:
- Members and employees of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® and their families and household members (e.g., children, grandchildren, parents, and siblings)
- Members and employees of local, state, and regional REALTOR® associations and their families and household members
- Members and employees of NAR’s Institutes, Societies, and Councils and their families and household members
- Owners of REALTOR®-owned businesses
Who’s not eligible? Membership is not open to the following:
- Employees of REALTOR®-owned businesses
- Customers of REALTORS®—such as homebuyers
OK, sign me up! Regulatory approval and the start of credit union operations are expected before the end of 2008. Let us keep you posted about the REALTORS® Federal Credit Union (NAR member login required). We respect your privacy and will use your information only to make you aware of the status of the credit union.
